Noise in Feed-forward Loops for Galactose Utilization
ثبت نشده
چکیده
In this chapter we study two naturally occurring feed-forward loops that are involved in galactose metabolism and transport. Despite having network structures that are capable of a producing dynamic, temporally diverse responses we find, by measuring dynamic noise correlations, that in their natural context these feed-forward loops are inactive. By perturbing genetic conditions the activity can be restored.

A Stochastic Framework to Model Extrinsic Noise in Gene Regulatory Networks
Stochastic modeling to represent intrinsic and extrinsic noise is an important challenge in molecular systems biology. There are numerous ways to model intrinsic noise. One framework for intrinsic noise in gene regulatory networks was recently proposed within the discrete setting. In contrast, extrinsic perturbations were rarely modeled due to the complex mechanisms that contribute to its emerg...
متن کاملTrade-offs and Noise Tolerance in Signal Detection by Genetic Circuits
Genetic circuits can implement elaborated tasks of amplitude or frequency signal detection. What type of constraints could circuits experience in the performance of these tasks, and how are they affected by molecular noise? Here, we consider a simple detection process-a signal acting on a two-component module-to analyze these issues. We show that the presence of a feedback interaction in the de...
متن کاملTrade-off between Responsiveness and Noise Suppression in Biomolecular System Responses to Environmental Cues
When living systems detect changes in their external environment their response must be measured to balance the need to react appropriately with the need to remain stable, ignoring insignificant signals. Because this is a fundamental challenge of all biological systems that execute programs in response to stimuli, we developed a generalized time-frequency analysis (TFA) framework to systematica...
متن کاملThe incoherent feed-forward loop accelerates the response-time of the gal system of Escherichia coli.
Complex gene regulation networks are made of simple recurring gene circuits called network motifs. One of the most common network motifs is the incoherent type-1 feed-forward loop (I1-FFL), in which a transcription activator activates a gene directly, and also activates a repressor of the gene. Mathematical modeling suggested that the I1-FFL can show two dynamical features: a transient pulse of...
متن کاملNoise propagation with interlinked feed-forward pathways
Functionally similar pathways are often seen in biological systems, forming feed-forward controls. The robustness in network motifs such as feed-forward loops (FFLs) has been reported previously. In this work, we studied noise propagation in a development network that has multiple interlinked FFLs. A FFL has the potential of asymmetric noise-filtering (i.e., it works at either the "ON" or the "...
